Israel [Jul. 2nd, 2007|02:22 pm]
Basically, Israel has been insane, and I've only been here for 4 nights...I've visited the most beautiful sites during the day (Ceasarea, The Holocaust Museum, etc.), and I don't go to sleep until 5 am, because my cousin is a party animal and loves clubbing/drinking/dancing. I'm eating amazing food and two days ago, I met the most attractive guy in the entire world at some Israeli army, pool, villa, OC-esque party. Everything that's happening is a complete blur, utterly surreal. And I just found out that I can text CHEAPLY using my normal cell phone (and not the special phone my parents gave me). SCORE.

I really miss everyone back home, and I can't wait to bring back things for others and have nice times before college.

Love,
חנה

I just ran 2 miles. [May. 14th, 2007|08:11 pm]
...My aching calves and swollen ankles (don't run in converse, kids) needed some sort of stretching remedy, and the deck seemed suitable for this sort of activity. As soon as I stepped onto the wood, I saw a deer run out of the woods -- obviously startled for some unknown reason. I must have stared at this creature for at least 3 minutes(which is a long time). Neither of us moved. Another minute passed and the deer nodded its head, gracefully leaping away into the woods of Franklin Lakes...

...I must have some sort of connection with deers, because I am constantly encountering them, and they are constantly nodding at me. I wonder what they're trying to say...

I just studied Calculus for 4 hours straight. This culminated in me crying for 15 minutes. I know absolutely nothing, and I am going to fail my AP.

college stinks [Apr. 14th, 2007|11:40 pm]
I really hate selfish people who only think about themselves and that are willing to screw people over and manipulate their minds just so that they could be happy and live there stupid superficial lives.

I was waiting for bus 197 at Port Authority when a tall, Russian man who looked vaguely familiar approached me. He said 'hello' (in russian), and congratulated me on all of my college acceptances. He said, "I hear you did very well." Keep in mind that I haven't seen this man in three years and when I did, it was because his son gave me tennis lessons or something... Apparently, the entire Russian population of New Jersey and New York knows where I got into college. Thanks mom.

Last Monday, I found out that the reason I had not been reviewed by McGill was because my Midyear grades hadn't been sent. They were sent the next day and received by McGill on Monday. The next day (yesterday), I went to check my status and I was accepted to the School of Arts (your general college of arts and culture) and waitlisted at this incredible interdisciplinary (and super selective) Bachelors of Arts and Science program there (which I'm going to try and get off of, because I NEED to do this program). Either way, I'm pretty sure that I'm going there (like 80 percent). It's a great education, and there are so many majors and degree programs to choose from. It's also the cultural center of Canada, AND I get to practice my French! My parents are so so so supportive of the choice, too. YAYYAY!!!!!!!

...but it's really far and so different, so I'm still considering ALL of my options.

the smell of gefilte fish is in the air... [Apr. 2nd, 2007|06:50 pm]
Passover is probably my most favorite holiday for a couple of reasons:

1. Plenty of chopped liver to feast on for an entire week
2. Two amazing meals that feature some of that delicious chopped liver and 4 cups of MANDATORY wine...
3. I can get a lot of money if I find the Afikoman (a hide-and-go seek game with a piece of matzoh for all of you gentiles)
4. I can lose at least 2 pounds due to the strict restrictions on bread and wheat products.
5. I get to come into school late the next day after the seder (the festive meal on the first two nights of Passover)

EAT SHIT [Mar. 30th, 2007|11:59 pm]
Dear Williams,

Although you do have excellent academics, incredible study abroad programs, and lobster Thursdays, I'd rather go to a school where 97 percent of the student population is not WASP. I also don't feel like going to beer parties sponsored by the rugby, sailing, AND diving teams -- not my cup of tea. I would also like to add that spending a quarter of a million dollars on a school located in the middle of two mountains is somewhat ridiculous. Thank you for rejecting me and saving me the time of realizing how much of a horrible time I would have had if I had actually gone to your exclusive intellectual mecca.

Fondly,
Hannah, the student that was liked by Barnard, UC Berkeley, and even Princeton.

I know these are super obnoxious... [Mar. 29th, 2007|08:18 pm]
but

UC Berkeley: ACCEPTED
Cornell: WAITLISTED
Swarthmore: REJECTED

On a different note, I worked out today with my mother. It was quite nice and got my mind off of college.

Holy Shit [Mar. 29th, 2007|07:05 pm]
I seriously thought I would be rejected BUT...

Princeton: WAITLISTED
Columbia: WAITLISTED

Please, does anyone have any tips for getting off these waitlist? Columbia doesn't want a supplemental rec, but doesn't mind if I send them a letter. Can anyone help me compose this amazing-to-be letter? And Princeton doesn't specify. What should I inform them of? HELP

This week is going to be hell... [Mar. 25th, 2007|12:27 pm]
It's also a week before passover, so I'm going to cheer myself up with some pictures of my favorite passover foods (and drinks):

I would have put up a picture of chopped liver, but I realized that many people may be scarred for life.

Snow [Mar. 19th, 2007|11:12 pm]
sucks. Having cheap parents sucks, too. After a foot of snow covered my driveway, my parents decided that plowing/shoveling(I would have done it, but as most of you know, my driveway is ridiculously long, so I stuck with shoveling the entrance to my home) would be unnecessary since we own two large SUVs. They were so wrong. Today, I flew into my driveway (for going as fast as possible is the only possible way to crush the layer of ice that has accumulated over the snow), but couldn't fly out when I needed to go to the bank. My mother told me that it was my fault and I shoveled the snow surrounding my car for around half an hour -- the most workout I have gotten in years, mind you. Anyway, now I have resorted to parking the car at the top of the driveway for easy backup access.

On a lighter note -- Today I recieved a postcard from NYU which said:

"Dean Matthew S. Santirocco (New York University) cordially invites you and your parets to attend a College of Arts and Science Reception for students admitted to the class of 2011."

WHOAH. WAIT. DING DING DING. Admitted to NYU? I called the school to verify and yes, I have been:

Accepted to NYU.
